Guqin Xiao Duet 432Hz Mr Flower Design by Sandro Flora

I’ve always believed that the most powerful meditation music doesn’t try to fill silence – it creates it. The Guqin & Xiao Duet at 432 Hz was born from exactly that intention: two ancient Chinese instruments coming together in a pure, minimalist dialogue that invites profound stillness and inner listening.

Why 432 Hz?

I chose 432 Hz because it simply feels more natural and resonant to me. Often called “nature’s frequency” or “Verdi’s A,” it produces a softer, warmer, more organic sound compared to the modern standard 440 Hz. Many people — including myself after years of listening — notice that music tuned to 432 Hz helps the body relax more quickly, slows the breath naturally, and allows stuck emotions to surface and release with less resistance.

On a subtle level, it seems to create greater coherence between heart rate and breathing. Energetically, it’s frequently associated with aligning to the Earth’s rhythms (close to multiples of the Schumann resonance ~7.83 Hz). Whether or not science fully agrees, the lived experience is what matters: it feels gentler, more grounding, and more “at home” in the body.

The Guqin: The Instrument of Quiet Wisdom

The guqin, the seven-stringed zither of ancient China, has always been the instrument of scholars, hermits, and Taoists. It is never loud or showy — it is intimate, introspective, almost whispered. Its notes are sparse, the microtonal glissandi (sliding tones called zou yin) are long and expressive, and the silences between plucks are as important as the sounds themselves. Playing (or simply listening to) the guqin is already a form of meditation.

The Xiao: Breath Turned into Melody

The xiao is a vertical bamboo flute with a soft, airy tone. Its sound is produced by gentle breath, giving it a living, human quality — almost like someone breathing next to you in complete trust. When the xiao floats above the guqin, it creates a beautiful yin-yang balance: the guqin offers grounded, precise plucks; the xiao brings flowing, endless sustain. Together they speak in long pauses and subtle responses.
